Tappet Chest Covers

Tappet Chest Covers

There are two different style of tappet side covers fitted to A series engines, and it is important to know the type fitted to your vehicle as the gaskets are different.

The first type is the 'dished out' style which features flat edges where the gasket goes and the center is dished out where the bolt goes. This type uses a thin cork gasket, part number 12A1139.

The second type is the 'dished in' type commonly found on Cooper S engines and late model 998s. The edge of the cover is curled around to support the gasket, and the inside is dished in where the bolt goes. These covers also have a rubber o-ring for the bolt. This type uses a thick cork or a rubber gasket, part number 12A1175C for cork and 12A1175 for rubber.
