C-washer used to hold primary gear in on all Minis. C-washers can become extensively worn over time meaning that you cannot achieve the desired end float on the engine primary gear. It is a sound idea to replace all worn items before making final adjustment with different sized shims.
It is extremely important to check your primary gear and idler gear end float when building an engine and make sure it is within spec. Failure to do so can result in extensive damage to the engine and transmission.
